FAQ:

1. What is the main difference between Newborn (Stage 1) and Follow-on (stage 2) formula?

Newborn formula is suitable from birth and, for non-breastfed infants, can be a sole source of nutrition.

A Follow-on formula is to be used from 6 months of age, around which time complementary foods start being introduced into the diet. These formulas are nutritionally adapted to the needs of the growing child.

 2. Where can I get some samples of Blackmores infant formula (stage 1 and 2)?
We are unable to provide samples directly as we abide by the MAIF (Marketing in Australia of Infant Formula) Agreement. Under this agreement, infant formula companies are not able to provide samples of infant formula to the general public. We recommend you talk to your healthcare professional for further advice.
3. Can my baby stay on Newborn (Stage 1) formula after 6 months?
Yes, there are no problems with a baby over 6 months continuing with Newborn Formula if they prefer it. We recommend they move to our Toddler Milk Drink when they are 12 months of age.
4. Do your formulas contain all the nutrients my baby needs until 12 months?
Our Newborn Formula for 0 – 6-month-olds and our Follow-on Formula for 6 to 12-month-olds are nutritionally balanced, containing proteins from fresh cow’s milk and other essential nutrients that are age-appropriate and meet the strict nutritional requirements identified by Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ). If you require further information and individual advice, please consult your healthcare professional.
5. Can my baby have more or less feeds than is indicated on the container?
Follow the instructions for preparing the bottle as directed on the container. The feeding guide will give the proportions of the powder required. Incorrect preparation can make your baby very ill so always follow instructions on the pack.

Each baby’s nutritional needs and appetite vary from baby to baby and day today. As a carer, you will learn to read the signs your baby makes when he/she is hungry.

If you are unsure about the feeding requirements of your baby you should check with your health care professional.
6. Is Blackmores Newborn Formula suitable for my baby if they have an allergy?
We always recommend that you read the label before using our products. For a free, personalised service or help and advice with breastfeeding, please do not hesitate to contact Blackmores IBCLC lactation consultant and infant nutrition advisor on 1800 803 760.
