We know there is good Rosehip Oil and bad Rosehip Oil. Good Rosehip Oil is amazing for the skin and full of essential fatty acids, but some Rosehip Oils on the market don’t seem as nice. They can smell different, have a different colour and not seem to work as well. Some don’t even feel like Rosehip Oil at all. We went to great lengths to source our supplier of the highest grade Rosehip Oil we could find. Our Rosehip Oil is cold-pressed and certified organic by the USDA, which is one of the most rigorous organic certification schemes in the world.

One of the problems with pure Rosehip Oil is that it can oxidise (combine with oxygen) and loses its effectiveness quickly. Antioxidants won t do a thing if they have already oxidised in the bottle. For this reason, we bottled all of our oils and serums in airless and lightless pump bottles.

So how do you tell the difference between good quality and bad quality Rosehip Oil?

  1. Label Check – Is it certified organic, and by which certification body? There are some good certification companies out there but also some obscure ones. Always check up on them online to see if they’re legit. We also think that cold-pressed Rosehip Oil is best.
  2. Bottle Check – What does the oil come in? It should not let light in or too much air as Rosehip Oil can oxidise and lose its effectiveness quickly under these conditions. We think droppers look nice and feel medicinal, but they aren’t great at keeping air and bacteria away from the oil.
  3. Colour Check – It should be a nice yellow/orange colour as this shows it is relatively unrefined. If it’s a clear colour, it may not be as high-quality.
  4. Smell Check – Rosehip Oil has a unique fragrance. Some people enjoy it, others don’t like the smell. However, if Rosehip Oil is packaged in an inappropriate bottle with too much air or light, it can go rancid fairly quickly and end up smelling very strong, often described like salami; definitely not pleasant.
  5. Taste Check – It should taste as pleasant as a natural oil can. If the taste is very strong and unpleasant, it may have not been stored correctly or for too long before sale.

Tip: Mix with a few drops of your favourite moisturiser to make your cream more hydrating for those colder, drier months.

      FAQ:

Why has the packaging for this product changed?

Previously we packed our face oil in pump bottles and have recently changed them to droppers. The main reason for the change is because we had so many requests from our customers asking us for a dropper top as it seems to be the dispensing method of preference. We still think it’s super important to keep oils protected from light and air to reduce the amount of exposure they have to oxygen, light and bacteria that can contaminate the oil, causing it to oxidise and lose its antioxidant properties. To best avoid this we suggest that you don’t keep the bottle open for longer than necessary and never touch the dropper directly against your skin or face. Dispense the product directly into the palm of your hand and seal the product back up immediately when finished. The bottle remains opaque to protect the product from light exposure.

      How do antioxidants work?

Happy you asked! One part of ageing is caused by “free radical damage”. Free radicals are molecules that have become short of an electron. To become stable, free radicals seek out other molecules and can take an electron from them. This can cause cell damage leading to skin ageing, among other things. Supplying antioxidants to the skin helps mop up these pesky free radicals so they leave your cells alone. The difficult part is to ensure that the antioxidants get deep enough into the skin to function. That’s why we choose the ones we use as they are known to be able to penetrate into the skin and get to work.

Do serums go underneath or on top of moisturiser?

Serums go directly onto the clean skin, under your moisturiser. Apply directly to the skin after cleansing and allow it to soak in for a few minutes before following with your favourite moistures. We have a few.

How often do the serums need to be applied?

For best results, use your serum every night before bed before you apply your moisturiser.

Is this a face serum or an eye serum?

We like to keep things simple even if marketing can sometimes tell us otherwise and get us to believe we need a different product for every part of the body, and even different parts of the face. All of our serums are made for your skin so rub it on whenever you like on your face and around the eye area. Feel free to use it on your body as well, we don’t discriminate.

Are serums safe to use around the eye area?

Our serums are safe to use around the eye area, however, we don’t think it will not feel great on the eyeball, so avoid contact with eyes. If the product gets into your eye, simply rinse out with water. If using an oil, they do heat up to body temperature and can spread out across the skin. We recommend applying the serum to the orbital bone around the eye, not directly on the eyelids.
