You’ve probably already got the memo about how important and essential Magnesium is, but did you know that it plays an important role in over 300 biochemical and enzymatic pathways in the body? Good ol’ Magnesium is required and used by almost every cell in our body, so we guess that’s why everyone is always going on about how important it is to get enough of it on a regular basis. You might know Magnesium for its ability to help you get a good night’s sleep, or for the more active ones out there, how good it is at soothing muscle aches, pains, cramping and soreness. Now that’s what you call multi-tasking. But guess what? Yup, you guessed it, that’s not all Magnesium is good for.

We’ve become quite familiar with Magnesium when creating this formula, so much so that we’re on a first-name basis. Mag is like that friend that can do no wrong, the one that everyone likes and is always there to help you out (way to make us look bad). But what makes Mag even more amazing, on top of all it already does, is its love of skin. Applying Magnesium topically has been shown to support skin health and improve hydration. It’s also known to help soothe fussy skin and help reduce the symptoms of certain skin conditions. And from testing by our very own MooGoo staff, our Magnesium Moisturiser has also been found to work wonders on menstrual cramps too. Bonus!

For those that are into the science of things, Magnesium is absorbed through the skin, passes into the lymph and local vascular (blood vessel) system and soon after into the bloodstream. That’s why it’s often recommended to take a Magnesium bath after strenuous exercise. As a result, blood magnesium levels are replenished through the skin, helping to relax muscles, reduce cramping, restore red blood cells and reduce inflammation. Needless to say, we can’t get enough. That’s why this humble tube contains 20% Magnesium Chloride (a whole lot more than other Magnesium products out there) in a salt electrolyte form, which research has shown is far more optimal for absorption and skin cell uptake compared to regular Magnesium Chloride oil. That's 24g of quality, ionised, fast-absorbing natural elemental magnesium per tube! Magnesium Chloride (MgCl) is an inorganic salt, a water-soluble compound that can be extracted from salt water.

We think we really hit the nail on the head with this one. As per usual, the base of this magnificent moisturiser is made up of our favourite nourishing oils, Sweet Almond & Coconut, as well as our other top pick for hydration and skin repair, Vitamin E. It’s a s-MOO-th, lightweight moisturiser that rubs in easily, with great skin feel upon application, which we are absolutely here for. With no added scent or hypoallergenic fragrances, this moisturiser is suitable for all ages and skin types, although as always, patch test on skin for allergies before use. Some people may find their skin is a bit sensitive to Magnesium at first, so start with the body and work up to the face. Since we’ve packed in so much magnificent Mag (we repeat, 20%!), we also recommend starting with a small dollop and working up to more as your skin adapts over time. Because of its propensity for relaxation, it’s best applied before bed, but make sure to avoid open cuts, scratches or broken skin as Magnesium can get real stingy in those spots – those who’ve been in a sensory deprivation float tank will know all too well.

FAQ:

What ingredients do you avoid when making a moisturiser?

There's lots of things you won't find in this cream (or any of our other products) because they were all formulated for family members and close friends. This includes Paraffin and Mineral Oil which derive from petroleum but are commonly found in commercial moisturisers like Sorbolene. We don’t think putting the stuff that goes into our cars on our skin is the healthiest thing we can do.

We also don’t use any synthetic preservatives such as Parabens and Phenoxyethanol, although they're pretty common too, including with a few brands that claim to be natural (you know who you are!). We avoid a lot of other things too, way too many to list here. We also don't use any useless, trendy ingredients like stem cells from Swiss apples or super power jellyfish DNA, just natural, effective ingredients for healthy skin.

Is this a face cream or a body cream?

We like to keep things simple even if marketing can sometimes tell us otherwise and get us to believe we need a different cream for every part of the body. This cream is made for your skin so rub it on whenever you like on your face and body, and hands and feet too, we don’t discriminate.
