Breakthrough treatment for wound healing

Faster healing and early abnormal scar prevention

  • A film-forming, flexible, full-contact wound dressing.
  • Can be applied immediately after suturing or on open wounds.
  • Promotes a moist environment for faster wound healing.
  • Allows abnormal scar prevention to begin earlier than ever before.
  • Does not need to be removed.
  • Bacteriostatic, provides an alternative to topical antibiotics.

Stratamed – the advanced film-forming wound dressing

Stratamed is an advanced, transparent, and semi-occlusive film-forming wound dressing used after surgery, full field procedures (i.e. ablative laser) or on deeper wounds. Stratamed has been developed with a special consistency to ensure that it remains in stronger contact with the wound bed or damaged surface.

  • Flexible, full contact: Stratamed dries to form a thin and flexible protective film that remains in constant contact with the damaged skin.
  • Reduced downtime: Stratamed reduces downtime by creating an optimal environment for faster wound healing.
  • Bacteriostatic: Stratamed protects the compromised skin from microbial invasion and does not promote bacterial growth.
  • Symptom relief: Stratamed provides symptomatic relief from itching, burning and discomfort, as well as reduces redness and swelling.
  • Non-reactive: Stratamed is inert, has no measurable pH value, contains no alcohol, parabens or fragrances. This makes it suitable for children and people with sensitive skin.
  • Medical device: Stratamed is registered as a European class IIa, TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) and FDA listed Class I medical device (wound dressing). It is suitable for use on open wounds, and mucosa (e.g. Nasal, oral and urethral)
  • PROTECTION: Stratamed is bacteriostatic, it protects the skin from chemical and microbial invasion while reducing the risk of contact dermatitis.
  • ABNORMAL SCAR PREVENTION AND TREATMENT: Stratamed allows the prevention of abnormal scarring to begin immediately post-procedure (before suture removal).
  • SECONDARY DRESSINGS: Stratamed is compatible with secondary absorbent dressings (i.e. bandages, plaster, gauze).

Stratamed is a semi-occlusive, self-drying and transparent gel that lightly bonds to the most superficial damaged skin. Stratamed dries to form a protective layer that is gas permeable and waterproof which hydrates and protects compromised skin areas and open wounds from chemical and microbial invasion. Stratamed has been developed with a special consistency to ensure it remains in full contact with the wound bed or damaged surface. Stratamed is flexible and adapts to all kinds of wound surfaces. This results in a more comfortable dressing that stays in contact with the skin and can simply be re-applied rather than needing to be removed like a traditional dressing.

Stratamed can be applied immediately to:

  • Chronic, slow healing, deep, and superficial wounds
  • Full-field ablative laser procedures and chemical peels
  • 1st and 2nd degree burns
  • Fresh incisions and excision
  • Skin tears, grazes, abrasion and trauma
  • Bites and accidents
  • Tattooing and tattoo removal
  • Compromised skin (such as nappy rash, cracked nipples, pressure injuries and blisters)

Stratamed Clinical Evidence

Stratamed Advanced Wound Dressing is suitable for:

Stratamed is designed for all skin types. It is suitable for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, children or people with sensitive skin.

    • Step 1 - Prepare your skin: Ensure that the affected skin or superficial wound is clean. Gently pat dry as much excess exudate or wound fluid from the area as possible prior to the gel application.
    • Step 2 - Apply Stratamed: Apply a very thin layer of Stratamed directly to the affected area.
    • Step 3:
      • Without secondary dressing: Allow the gel to dry. When applied correctly, Stratamed should be dry in 5–6 minutes. If it takes longer to dry, you have probably applied too much. Gently remove any excess gel with a tissue or paper towel and allow the drying process to continue.
      • With secondary dressing: Cover with secondary dressing. Apply a thin layer of Stratamed, then cover with a secondary dressing. Drying is not necessary. Stratamed should be reapplied when changing the dressing, when checking the wound progress, or as advised by your doctor.
    • Step 4 - You are ready to go!: Once dry, Stratamed can be covered with clothes, sunscreen or cosmetics.

When applied correctly to the affected areas, Stratamed should be dry in 5–6 minutes. If it takes longer to dry you have probably applied too much. Gently remove the excess with a clean tissue or gauze and allow the drying process to continue.

Stratamed should be applied once daily, or twice daily to exposed areas or as advised by the physician. Stratamed may be re-applied more often to ensure constant contact with the skin, or to reduce symptoms.

Once dry, Stratamed can be covered by a physical sunscreen, cosmetics, pressure garments or casts.

If not completely dry, Stratamed may stain clothing. Normal washing will not remove the product from the clothes. If staining occurs, dry cleaning should be able to remove it without any damage to the fabric.

Stratamed should not be applied over topical medications unless advised by the physician.

    Removing Stratamed

Remove from the skin: Excess Stratamed on your hands can be easily removed by washing them with liquid soap and warm water. Repeat if necessary.

Remove from clothes: Stratamed may stain clothing if not completely dry. If staining occurs, dry cleaning should be able to remove it without damaging the fabric.

Stratamed 10g is enough to treat a 5-8 cm linear incision twice per day for over 90 days.

Is Stratamed suitable to use for children?

Yes, Stratamed is completely biocompatible, inert and is intended for use for both, children and people with sensitive skin.

      Does Stratamed have any odour?

      No, Stratamed is odorless.

Is Stratamed suitable to use during pregnancy?

Stratamed is suitable to use during pregnancy for both, mother and unborn child.

Does Stratamed have an expiry date?

Stratamed has an expiry date of five years after manufacturing. This date is imprinted on every box (side flap) and tube (end seal) in the format year-month (e.g. EXP 2018-09 or 13-09).

When can I start to apply Stratamed after surgery?

You can start to apply Stratamed immediately after suturing.

      Is Stratamed sterile?

Yes, Stratamed is sterile until opened. Additionally, Stratamed is bacteriostatic (it hinders bacteria from reproducing, while not necessarily harming them otherwise), which makes it suitable to use on open wounds or compromised skin.

Can Stratamed be used in conjunction with other medications?

Do not apply any other product underneath Stratamed. Applying medications on top of Stratamed will have no effect because, by design, it will not be able to pass through the Stratamed film. If an infection is present, have it treated prior to beginning your Stratamed treatment.

The gel does not dry within the recommended time. What is the reason for this?

When applied correctly, Stratamed should be dry in 5-6 minutes. If it takes longer to dry you have probably applied too much. Gently remove the excess with a tissue and allow the drying process to continue.

Can Stratamed be used with a secondary dressing?

Yes, Stratamed can be covered with a secondary dressing. The gel does not need to dry before applying a secondary dressing and can be covered immediately.

Can Stratamed be used on lips?

Stratamed is suitable to be used on lips. Stratamed may need to be applied more frequently when used on lips.

Can Stratamed be used on eyelids?

Yes, Stratamed goes through an evaporation process during the drying phase which may cause the eyes to sting temporarily. This stinging will cause no harm.

What are the advantages of using Stratamed gel instead of physical wound dressings?

There are delicate areas where it is very difficult or impossible to use physical dressings:
      • Areas with high mobility
      • Areas with high friction
      • Wet skin (mucosa), hindering adherence
      • Areas with higher hygienic requirements (e.g. perineum)

Physical dressings, including silicone dressings, do not create a full-contact surface because air bubbles from underneath. Delicate areas like the eyes, nostrils and lip contours remain exposed and subjected to irritation due to the adhesive tape. Stratamed is an advanced film-forming wound dressing in the form of a self-drying silicone gel. Stratamed is flexible, adaptable, and creates a full-contact surface.

Are there any side effects associated with the use of Stratamed?

There have been no side effects observed with the proper use of Stratamed. The ingredients in Stratamed are completely compatible with human biology. However, if redness, pain or skin irritation should occur, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor.

Is Stratamed visible on my skin?

No. Stratamed is a transparent wound dressing.

Are there any known allergies to Stratamed?

There are no known allergies to Stratamed. Stratamed is an inert, biocompatible and non-transdermal polymer. Irritation, sensitivity and acute toxicity testing were conducted and no adverse reactions have been noted.
