An oil that targets acne and anti-ageing — sounds too good to be true? We put The Jojoba Company’s natural Jojoba oils to the test to see if they’re as good as they say on the tin
Suffer with breakouts and ageing skin? We may well have found you the holy grail of natural skincare. Packed with hydrating vitamins, essential omegas and powerful antioxidants and plant oils, The Jojoba Company’s natural oil collection is a wonder potion that restores even the most sensitive and problem prone skin.
After reading glowing reviews (literally and figuratively), we were keen to give The Jojoba Company’s hero oil products a try. Read on for our Jojoba oil verdict…
What is it?
A healing, moisturising natural oil made from Australian Wadi-Wadi Jojoba that’s specially formulated to moisturise and repair sensitive and problem skin. The oil is extra-virgin, cold-pressed and filtered 14 times to create a highly concentrated formula that works miracles on dryness, dehydration, redness, irritation and even acne.
This is where things get interesting. Jojoba is unlike any oil, because it’s not actually really an oil. It’s the only plant known to produce wax esters similar to those in our skin. It’s believed that our skin recognises these Jojoba wax esters — it’s more receptive to receive vital nutrients and antioxidants — and can deliver them deep into the skin to provide similar moisturising properties as our own sebum. So basically, it mimics our skin’s natural production. That’s why it can also be used to help treat breakouts, because it balances the skin's sebum production. Clever, right?
And it doesn’t end there. It also comes rich in antioxidants, vitamins A, D and E, and skin strengthening Omega 9 — the Wadi-Wadi Jojoba The Jojoba Company use within their formula is clinically proven to have higher amounts of Omega 9 than other Jojoba varieties. This works in harmony with Omega 6 to produce building blocks in the skin cells that strengthen the skin’s surface layers, promising a smoother, healthier and younger-looking complexion.
Luxuriously rich, but not too heavy, the silky formula literally glides onto your skin. Almost instantly, my skin looked brighter and more energised with a gorgeous, natural glow. I was slightly sceptical of its multi-purpose usage — this oil can be used on the face and body to target dry, sensitive and acne prone skin — but in truth, it really does work.
As someone who suffers with sensitive skin, I found this oil a great addition to my skincare regime. I didn’t suffer with any breakouts or irritation, and my skin felt beautifully soft and perfectly moisturised. It actually works as a great serum that can be used underneath make-up, and its plumping effect certainly did make a difference (if somewhat subtle) on my forehead and smile lines too. Just be careful around the eyes as it can sting slightly. Definitely a purchase worth investing in.
What is it?
Exactly what it says on the tin: an age-defying youth potion packed full of vitamins, antioxidants and essential omegas that intensely hydrates and firms the skin.
Quite the statement in an anti-ageing product, but The Jojoba Company Ultimate Youth Potion claims that it will: “bring your skin back to way it was when you were 22”. At 37, I’m not quite sure this beautifying elixir has the ability to deliver such miraculous and ambitious results, but I can’t say that I wasn’t intrigued.
Formulated with CoQ10 and L22®, a unique patented formula that contains Jojoba, Macadamia oil and Squalene, this age-defying potion mimics the skin lipid profile of a healthy 22-year-old to deeply hydrate, firm and restore the skin's natural complexion.
But does it work?
After one week of using, sadly I didn’t wake up to a vision my former 22-year-old self. You can’t expect miracles people. But, having said that, I was suitably impressed with the results. Just like the Jojoba Oil, this indulgent, velvety oil is incredibly hydrating and gives your skin an instant boost.
It says on the packaging to expect 25% more hydration and 20% improvement in skin firmness after just one week. I have to say, I could notice a difference. It smooths and plumps the skin, and really does get to work on fine lines and wrinkles. They were visibly less noticeable after using twice a day for one week, and admittedly my skin did look much more radiant.
It also has a subtle fragrance that smells divine. Your skin really does feel as though it’s been lavishly pampered. The best bit is that it’s priced at less than $50 — it really is a wonder find. A lot cheaper than Botox!
